Price Match Pharmacy in Newport at Your Community Pharmacy Newport
NewportShop 3, 1 Kalinya St

As an independent, family-owned price match pharmacy in Newport, we match prices on scripts as well as products on the shelf. The detailed conditions are not published, so the staff at the counter will tell you whether your item qualifies. It sits alongside our free blood pressure checks and free local delivery, and it costs nothing to ask.

Using a price match pharmacy

  1. Bring in or show us the lower price and ask the team.
  2. If it is a prescription, hand in the script at the same time.
  3. The team will tell you whether it can be matched.

You can ask at the counter or speak to the pharmacist, whichever suits you, and there is no need to book. If you are not sure whether the lower price you saw is for the same item, ask anyway and let the team check it.

How script prices work in Australia

Most prescriptions are subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. From 1 January 2026, the PBS co-payment is up to $25.00 for most PBS medicines for general patients, or $7.70 with a concession card, and the Australian Government pays the remaining cost, apart from extras such as brand premiums. If your medicine carries a brand premium, ask the pharmacist whether a version without one is available. Pharmacists may choose to discount some eligible general scripts, and the PBS itself notes that prices can vary between pharmacies, so comparing is worthwhile.

Your spending also counts towards the PBS Safety Net. In 2026 the threshold is $277.20 for concession card holders and $1,748.20 for everyone else. Once you reach it, later PBS scripts drop to the concessional rate, or no charge if you hold a concession card, for the rest of the year. Private scripts outside the PBS are priced by each pharmacy, which is where a price match can help most.

To reach the Safety Net you need a record of what you have paid. If you fill scripts at more than one pharmacy, ask the pharmacist about a Prescription Record Form so the amounts from each one are counted together.

Other ways to keep health costs down

Several services here cost nothing: a free blood pressure check, diabetes monitoring and a stroke risk assessment. Scripts and products can also come to you through free local delivery, with no minimum order.

Two more are worth knowing about. A medication review can pick up medicines you no longer need, which can save money too, and take home naloxone is supplied free under a government program. The full list sits on our health services page.
