Your Community Pharmacy FAQs

These are the questions about Your Community Pharmacy that the Newport team hears most at the counter and on the phone. They are grouped by topic, from opening hours and scripts to vaccinations, health checks and delivery. Each answer is short and links to the page that explains the topic in full, so you can read further only where you need to.

Have other questions about Your Community Pharmacy?

The answers here are general. For advice about your own medicines or health, speak with a pharmacist in store or by phone, and in an emergency call 000. Longer reads on seasonal topics, from hay fever to flu season, are on the health blog. If your question is not listed here, call the pharmacy on (02) 9999 1186 and ask a pharmacist.

Opening hours and visiting

Is the pharmacy in Newport open now?

Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm, closed Sunday. On public holidays, call first. After hours, healthdirect gives free nurse advice on 1800 022 222. All our details are on the contact page.

Where is the pharmacy?

Shop 3, 1 Kalinya St, Newport, with easy parking. Distances from nearby suburbs are on our service areas page.

Do I need to book for anything?

No. There is no booking system; every in-store health service is walk-in during opening hours.

Prescriptions and medicines

Can I use an electronic prescription?

Yes. Show the token on your phone, or ask about an Active Script List if you have several medicines. Paper scripts are fine too, and doctors can fax scripts to (02) 9999 1966.

Can a pharmacist check whether my medicines clash?

Yes. A medication review looks at prescriptions, over-the-counter products and supplements together, and is free.

Can I get a sick certificate without a doctor?

For a short illness, yes. The pharmacist can issue a work absence certificate and will refer you to a GP if your condition needs more care.

Vaccinations

Which vaccines can I get without an appointment?

Flu, COVID-19, shingles, whooping cough, HPV, RSV, hepatitis A and B, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, polio and typhoid. The walk-in vaccinations page lists each one with its age limits.

Will my vaccine be free?

It depends on the vaccine, your age and your health. The flu vaccine, for example, is funded for some groups only. Ask the pharmacist about cost and eligibility.

Do you give the yellow fever vaccine?

No. NSW pharmacists cannot give it; our yellow fever page explains where to go. The same applies to Q fever.

When should I start travel vaccines?

Several weeks before you leave is ideal, as some vaccines need more than one dose. Start with travel vaccination advice.

Health checks

Which health checks are free?

The blood pressure check, blood glucose screening, stroke risk assessment and medication review. None of them needs an appointment.

What if my reading comes back high?

A pharmacy reading is a screen, not a diagnosis. The pharmacist explains it and suggests seeing your GP; diabetes monitoring results come with a copy to take along.

Do I need a script for naloxone?

No. Take home naloxone is free, and the pharmacist shows you how to use it.

Delivery, Webster Pak and price match

Do you deliver to my street?

Possibly. Local delivery is free with no minimum order; call (02) 9999 1186 to check your address.

What is a Webster Pak?

A sealed pack that sorts your medicines by day and time. Read about our Webster Pak service.

Will you match a cheaper price?

Show us the lower price and ask the team. Our price match page has the details.
